The Official Opening of Double Bridge Naish Hill Lacock

Tuesday 26th May 2009 at 11am

Tuesday 26 May was a very special day for the Wilts and Berks canal trust, not just because we were opening the Naish Hill double bridge, and so acknowledging 3 years of hard work on the part of the working parties, and not just because the bridge was proving to be a real talking point for the local community and focusing attention on the canal restoration work, but also because our patron, the Duchess of Cornwall was attending and so it would be the highest profile event in the history of the trust - and possibly the entire 199 year history of the canal.

Trust Appoints New Environment Director
Monday, 02 March 2009 00:00

Following the Council of Management meeting in January the Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Guy as Environment Director. Clare will be working closely with the restoration team to deliver the waterway as part of the green infrastructure for the region.

Clare's role is to review our policies and procedures on the environment and work with the restoration team to deliver a waterway to maintain and enhance habitats for wildlife. Clare says her passion for wildlife probably stems from being brought up in a village with nature all around her. She has been in the environmental sector all her working life, and her interest in canals developed when she worked for British Waterways. She has also experienced and enjoyed working on restoration projects with the very enthusiastic volunteers of the Cotswold and Droitwich Canals trust. Clare has a degree and masters in ecology and management of the natural environment.

Swindon Central Area Action Plan
Tuesday, 23 December 2008 00:00

The action plan is the core document in planning the regeneration of Swindon Town Centre. The Planning Inspectorate has just completed its review of the plan which includes the new route for the canal along Westcott Place and Farringdon Road. The inspector has judged the plan to be sound and with some amendments to the monitoring of progress of the scheme, the project can be progressed. The next major issues to be dealt with are traffic management and funding.

Thames Water Reservoir
Tuesday, 23 December 2008 00:00
There have been some encouraging developments regarding the Thames Water Reservoir. During November the results of the 2007 Public Consultation on the facilities and benefits the local community would like to see if the reservoir goes ahead were published. Martin Buckland wrote a four-page response on behalf of the Trust in 2007 and most of the points have been accepted. We have been invited to continue our dialogue with Thames Water at an early date.

The full report, complete with maps, is available on the Thames Water website: Thameswater Website
