Work has been completed on the first of the Trust's flagship projects. The new junction with the Thames at Abingdon has been created thanks to the Trust winning the Inland Waterways (IWA) Diamond Jubilee Grant.

The opening of the new junction took place in Abingdon on Wednesday 30th August 2006, by Councillor Peter Green, Mayor of Abingdon.

A selection of photographs detailing the events of the day can be seen here with thanks to our trust Archivist Doug Small.

If you have images of the junction taken on the day you would be prepared to allow to be shown (and credited) on this site please contact the webmaster here.

This image shows the Inland Waterways narrowboat Jubilee making its way along the new junction.

Given the location of the junction and the fact that this was a midweek working day, the numbers attending were very encouraging. The Trust were very pleased to see so many boats showing an interest in the new water.

The preparation leading to the opening owes a great debt of thanks to both Waterways Recovery Group and members of East Vale branch. The preparations leading to the day can be seen here.
