West Vale - Nationwide Volunteers

27 July, 2016

At West Vale we have been most fortunate to have continuing support from volunteers at the Nationwide Building Society.

This July a team of seven came to lay a stone surface on a length of towpath, by the Shrivenham sub-station, that we have been improving over the last couple of years but still gets very muddy during the winter. The stone was supplied from an award from the WBCT Supporters 300 Club.

For some this was a return visit, for they had also sufaced the new path on our Canalside Park last autumn.
They rapidly moved 7 bags of stone during the morning and after lunch in the 'local', inspected and did some maintenance to their path in the park.

West Vale - BT Lends a Hand

July, 2016

The Branch was very pleased to welcome back a team from BT who supplied many hands to help maintain the area around the Shrivenham park.

Although the day was rather warm to work, this eager team cleared brambles from a length of canal bank and also cut back 10 foot high thistles that were threatening to fall over our new path around the eastern end of the park.

Thanks BT for carrying out two tough jobs for us.

West Vale - Nationwide Returns

27th October, 2015

The West Vale Branch is very grateful to the Nationwide Building Society for their continued supprt on 'our patch'.
On the 14th & 28th October more eager bands of Nationwide volunteers got stuck into 'hard graft' in and around the  Shrivenham Canalside Park.

The first group completed laying the surface to a new path around the eastern end of the park and cleared the scrub from the banks of the canal within the park.
The second, trimmed the hedge and cleared scrub on a section towards Station Road.
It seems everyone loves a bonfire, especially after another good lunch at the local pub!

West Vale Canalside Park Work-party

9th September, 2015

Nationwide Building Society returned to the Canalside Park in Shrivenham for their first team visit to us of this year.

September '15

This time, the Branch mid-week work-party was joined by 11 people from the IT Department. These energetic volunteers shifted 15 tons of stone to lay a further 50 metres of path around the park. All agreed it was a great day out in a lovely location with mild weather and a nice pub lunch.

With just about 30 metres to go to complete this new path we hope some of their colleagues, due next month, will be able to finish the job!

West Vale Hosts a Nationwide Work-party

5th November, 2014

Our regular mid-week work-party was swelled by another eager team of volunteers from Nationwide Building Society.

Great progress was made by three groups attacking the scrub and summer growth at our Canal-side Park in Shrivenham.

Canal banks were tidied and the route for a new path around the park was cleared in readiness for levelling and surfacing - a project part-funded by The Vale of White Horse District Council.

The weather was kind, dry and suitably cool for tough physical labour, with just sufficient wind for not just one essential bonfire (considering the date) but four!

Together with a good lunch at a local pub, everyone seemed to have had a great day out.
